Amsterdam by Road – Roadtrip

No you did read it right, driving to Amsterdam, I think people think because you fly there it must be at the end of the world. Once you get over the channel its only a three to four drive to Amsterdam. Their motorways are pretty easy to follow (except for the odd diversion around a spaghetti junction), free and there was hardly any traffic to be seen. I went with a couple of mates from work, It was good, I’d recommend any group of lads to do it, we made it a “cool” road trip by stopping off in different citys on the way back to sample their coffeeshops. We even stopped in Belgium to do a little sight seeing. A really good different way to see Amsterdam. My only piece of advice would be to stay outside of Amsterdam centre, apart from the high parking costs the roads are insane.  ...

Leidseplein Information

I always think its interesting when I speak to people who have been to Amsterdam who totally missed the Leidseplein district of Amsterdam. It is the social centre of the city with live music venues, night clubs, museums, art galleries, comedy clubs, restaurants plus many coffeeshops all surrounding this small square. The picture you see is of the Bulldog Palace coffeeshop, a rather large based in the old cells of the police station, how cool is that? The famous Sugar Factory is around the corner from here as is the Melkweg which has been home to many famous bands over the years. Museumplein is litterally around the corner where you will find both the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. Across the road you will find a very modest entrance to a huge park called Vondelpark, this is based on New York’s Central Park so that may give you an idea of its size, in the sixties and seventies this was one...

Hash

Hashish is made of the  resinous material from the cannabis plant, that is  dried and then compressed into a variety of forms, such as balls, cakes, or bars.  Pieces are then broken off, placed in pipes or joints, and then smoked. The Middle East, North Africa, Pakistan and Afghanistan are the main sources of hashish. The THC content of hashish is only around 5%. This is the most popular for countries with no source of their own as it is easier to smuggle. I think hash is a more “heady” feel, the taste is much harsher than smoking the bud but this is the easiest to cook with. Watch out for “pot rocks” when smoking this, its where bits fall out and burn your clothes....

Pollen

Kief (aka pollen) is made a powder made from trichomes (often incorrectly referred to as “crystals” or “pollen”) removed from the leaves and flowers of Cannabis plants. Kief can also compressed to produce one form of hashish, or consumed in powder form. If you are going to smoke a form of hash then this is the one to go for, much stronger, easier to burn and smoother on the throat....

Indica

Indicas originally come from the hash producing countries of the world like Afghanistan, Morocco, and Tibet. They are short dense plants, with broad leaves and often grow a darker green. After flowering starts they will be mature in 6 to 8 weeks. The buds will be thick and dense, with flavors and aromas ranging from pungent skunk to sweet and fruity. The smoke from an Indica is generally a body type stone, relaxing and laid back. Indica’s higher CBD than THC equals a much heavier, sleepy type of high. Indica plants have a heavy, stony high that is relaxing and can help different medical problems. Indica yield is usually higher than Sativa, and shorter growing season. Better for indoor growing, because they don’t get as tall. Indica plants are short, bushy, mature early, have more chlorophyll and less accessory pigments (accessory pigments protect the plant from excessive sunlight). As Indica strains have more chlorophyll than sativa they grow and mature faster. Combining different indicas,...

Sativa

Sativas are just about the opposite of Indicas. They are tall, thin plants, with much narrower leaves and grow a lighter green in color. They grow very quickly and can reach heights of 20 feet in a single season. They originally come from Colombia, Mexico, Thailand and Southeast Asia. Once flowering has begun, they can take anywhere from 10 to 16 weeks to fully mature. Flavors range from earthy to sweet and fruity. Sativa’s higher THC than CBD equals cerebral, soaring type of high, more energetic which can stimulate brain activity and may produce hallucinations. Sativa plants are taller, take longer to mature, have less chlorophyll and more accessory pigments (accessory pigments protect the plant from excessive sunlight). As Sativa strains have less chlorophyll than Indica they take longer to grow, mature, and require more light. Sativa typically takes longer to germinate and flower also, and grows more gangly then Indica breeds. Yield is usually lower than Indica, but is very potent. Thai...

Haarlem Information

If you are ever getting bored of the red lights and crowds of Amsterdam then Haarlem is a great place to visit, its only five minutes away from Centraal Station on the train and gives you a great insight into how the Dutch enjoy thier coffeeshops. To start off its safe not like its New York’s namesake, Haarlem is not a suburb of Amsterdam but its own town nearer the sea. My favourite coffeeshop is outside of the train station and is one of a chain of “Willie Wortel’s” shops in Haarlem, all of them are nice to be honest. You will struggle to find a coffeeshop in Haarlem where everyone isn’t friendly, alot of the coffeeshops have a map of them in Haarlem and well worth taking the leaflet. The weed tends to be alot cheaper and stonger than most of the tourist coffeeshops in Amsterdam and the town is really interesting, there are lots of shops to wander, pubs to...

Cannabis: Britain’s Secret Farms

I come across an excellent television show on UK’s BBC Three, it was called “Cannabis: Britain’s Secret Farms”. I thought the open minded approach was a breath of fresh air for the BBC and it did not gloryify cannabis but was great at starting the debate, or at least a discussion into exactly the real chances of harm it can cause compared to other drugs such as alcohol. All I can say is have a watch of the clip below; http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00qbbwd ...
